A stunning necklace by French Design House Givenchy!
This is a rare vintage 1979 Givenchy Paris New York runway necklace. It is unworn with its original retail label.
This highly collectible piece of costume jewelry features a distinct ribbed or scalloped pendant carved out of black Lucite resin styled like a shell or flower. At the centre is beautiful green oval rhinestone framed by clear rhinestones which extend over the bale. The resin 'shell' is also studded with clear rhinestones.
The back of the pendant carries an inset cartouche stamped with a copyright ©️ and 'GIVENCHY' 'PARIS NEW YORK' '1979'.
The pendant is suspended on a fine gold plated bar link chain with a double 'G' logo fold over click clasp.
It was originally retailed by Bijoux Stern Paris and carries the retailers original swing tag label. Stern were an independent French costume jewellery maker and retailer active from the 1960s through to the early 1980s.
In the late 1970s, legendary French costume jewelry manufacturer Bijoux Stern Paris held the premium production and distribution license for Givenchy's high-end runway jewelry lines across France and Europe.
The necklace is in excellent unused/unworn condition.
Hubert de Givenchy formally expanded his legendary Parisian fashion house into signature high-end costume jewelry in the mid-to-late 1970s.
Givenchy jewellery pieces from this foundational era are frequently stamped "Givenchy Paris New York" or feature the iconic double-G logo. This has both.
