A beautiful cream print 1970s dress by reknowned vintage label Jean Varon. The brand created by British designer John Bates in 1960. This dress is part of a collection acquired directly from his family.
Featuring a delightful floral print containing bands of floral baskets to the lower edge, this is a gorgeously romantic dress that could be worn everyday or dressed up for a special event.
It is unlined and made from a viscose polyester mix georgette crepe type fabric. The print colours are browns, blues and apricot on a cream background. See images for print details.
The dress has a topstitched mandarin collar with a button and short split front neckline with topstitch detailing. It has gorgeous wide dolman/batwing sleeves gathered at the topstiched narrow cuff with a button fastening. There is pleating across the shoulders and back giving slight volume to the bodice. From the waist the dress has top stitched pleats that break into soft folds from the bottom of the hips.
There is a separate matching fabric tie belt which is one inch wide and topstitched.
All buttons on the dress are mother of pearl.
There is a 23 inch back zip with hook and eye closures at the neck.
The dress is in excellent condition apart from a couple of slight age marks on the right sleeve at the centre front and at the upper arm front (see images).
