A rare, testament to the styling and detail of the Art Deco era.
This late 1920s to mid-1930s hand-tailored jacket is a masterclass in early 20th-century fabric hanfling. Handcrafted from a heavy, beautifully textured loose-weave artisanal fabric in a versatile oatmeal-beige tone, this piece marries geometric structure with a relaxed, sophisticated silhouette.
Every inch of this garment tells a story of custom dressmaking—from its architectural faux back vent to the hidden silk-wrapped weights sewn into the rear hem to ensure a flawless, statuesque drape.
Features of the jacket include:
  • Art Deco Geometry: The front hem features two striking, unusual triangular patch pockets—a classic nod to the cubist and architectural movements of the Jazz Age.
  • The "Opera" Sleeve: Traditional tailored, set-in shoulders provide a crisp vertical frame, elegantly tapering down into dramatic, long-slit flared cuffs designed to beautifully showcase jewellery or gloves.
  • The Silhouette: A tailored low-apex front with a single focal button on a two tab closure that creates a clean V-neck drape.
  • The Faux Back Vent: An 11 inch inverted center back box pleat is stitched down entirely flat. This custom tailoring trick was utilized to give the heavy, rustic textile a rigid, perfectly straight line down the spine without warping or billowing.
  • Hidden Construction: The interior back hem is anchored by four authentic coin weights, each individually hand-sewn into protective silk covers. This high-end technique weights the garment against the body's natural movement, maintaining its dramatic silhouette whether standing or in motion.
The fabric is a heavyweight, highly tactile loose-weave slub (feels like a premium raw silk, flax linen, or rustic lightweight wool blend). Unlined for a breathable, natural drape.
The inner raw edges are finished by hand matching and at the armhole completely encased in silk-rayon seam binding to prevent fraying and ensure a smooth, scratch-free fit against the skin.
It is in excellent  vintage condition considering its nearly 100-year age. No pulls, stains, or structural integrity issues. A true collector's archive piece.
Dry clean only. Store flat or on a broad, padded hanger to protect the weight-bearing shoulder seams and delicate loose weave.
Due to the hand-tailored nature of this piece, there is no size tag. It features a relaxed, accommodating drape best suited for a modern UK Size 10/12.  However please refer to exact measurements below for best fit.
The jacket has been shown on a UK Size 8 mannequin
