This is a stunning Art Deco Duette brooch (convertible piece) made by Ciro of Bond Street, London, dating from the 1930s.

It's design and shape is typically Art Deco with an unexpected pretty floral design at the centre.

A 'Duette' or 'duo clip' functions as a single statement brooch with a frame that splits apart into two matching dress, fur, or shoe clips.
The convertible mechanism is a classic "two-in-one" design. The piece consists of two identical symmetrical dress clips attached to a central back frame. You can wear them joined together as a single elegant statement brooch, or detach them from the pin mechanism to clip individually onto dress necklines/collars, coat/jacket lapels, or shoe straps/vamps.
Note: Because the clips feature a grip pin at the back they are not recommended for use on delicate fabrics.
They are often crafted from solid sterling silver (as this one is) and set with sparkling, ice-clear crystal paste stones.

It has stamps on the frame of 'SCP' and 'ENGLAND'. The "SCP" mark stands for "Sterling Ciro Pearls," denoting solid sterling silver metal settings paired with high-grade diamond-simulation paste rhinestones. This hallmark was specifically utilized by Ciro to designate their premium, high-quality sterling silver collection.

  • Ciro (founded in 1917 on London's Bond Street) was famous for high-end boutique and faux-fine jewelry that emulated real diamond and pearl configurations popular during the Hollywood glamour era.
  • This piece is in excellent condition with outstanding sparkle for its age. This reflects the quality of the brooch. The pin is slightly bent with age/use. However it does not affect its function. It has a roll safety clasp to secure the pin.
