This is a stunning 1950s/60s brooch by Weiss.
Designed as a large domed leaf shape it is set with clear and smokey grey toned Austrian rhinestone glass crystals. We believe this is a piece from Weiss's 'Black Diamond' Collection. See below.
It has a long pin to the back with a roll safety catch.
It is in excellent condition and signed 'Weiss' on the back.
Renowned costume jewellery brand Weiss was founded by Albert Weiss in 1942.
It is famous for its stunning quality rhinestone pieces, especially figural brooches (like insects & flowers), and expert use of color & aurora borealis crystals, making vintage pieces highly collectible.
"Black Diamond" Series: A popular, collectible line featuring smokey-colored rhinestones that mimicked German smokey quartz.
The Black Diamond series was created by Albert Weiss in the 1950's. The ad that ran in Vogue reads "Especially created for the smart new smokey-toned fashions. Distinctive grey Austrian rhinestones accented with tiny shimmering crystals designed by the pace-setter of fine jewelry, Albert Weiss". Fine jewellery designers have revived this combination in genuine black and white diamonds.
