This is an original Horrockses sundress and jacket which we understand dates to 1958.
In a gorgeous floral (chrysanthemum) striped pattern of yellow and green on a duck egg blue background it is made from a lovely satinised cotton.
The dress has a boned bodice with shoestring straps and a full gathered skirt. The bodice is cotton lined. It has a matching bow attached centre front. We are not sure that this is the bow's original placement. We think it was most likely originally at the front fastening of the jacket. However it does not detract from the design or wearability of the piece.
The dress has an original metal zip at the back with hook and loop fastener.
The jacket is cropped with cap sleeves with a hook and loop fastening at the bottom front of the jacket.
The dress and jacket are in good vintage condition. The dress has been laundered prior to being offered for sale. However it should be noted that:
- the jacket has been repaired at the 'diamond insets' under the arms. This is where the fabric had a tiny stress tear on each underarm. One darn repair under each arm
- there is underarm staining at the side edges at the top of the dress.
- There is a tiny blue dot mark (possibly ink) on the front of the skirt near the waist.
Please also see the images for these minor issues.
The dress is labelled an original (vintage) UK Size 14. This equates more closely to a current UK Size 6/8 (with a small waist).
The dress is photographed on a mannequin which has a bust measurements of 34 ins and a waist measurement of 22.5 ins.
